Highlands Park first time Bayhill Premier Cup Champions!!!

A well-organized and coached Highlands Park team overcame an equally organized and coached Mamelodi Sundowns team in the final.

Highlands Park took the lead in the first-half from the penalty spot. A lead they held until late in the game even though enduring much pressure from the Mamelodi Sundowns onslaught to get back in to the game.

The Sundowns pressure finally paid off and they equalized with very little time remaining. That was all it took to take the match in to extra time.

Highlands Park had already started to look visibly tired in the later phases of the second-half and continued to look so throughout extra-time.

Mamelodi Sundowns did not manage to take advantage of this though. Both teams failed to decide the match in extra-time and had to rely on the high pressure environment of penalties to decide the winner.

Both teams scored their first two penalties before Highlands Park goalkeeper Titus Mulaudzi saved Mohlala Makola’s kick. Albert Risen stepped up and converted to make it 4-2 to Highlands Park. It was then up to Likhanyile Ndlendle to keep Sundowns in the game but he ultimately blasted his effort way over the bar. Queue wild celebrations from the Highlands Park squad who achieved their first ever title victory at the tournament.

Congratulations to the squad on their achievement.
